BNSF 5276 |
Description: |
BNSF Dash 9 5276 leading 2 warbonnets and a H1 Dash 9 lead a mixed freight across a wash on the "East main" in Kingman Canyon while$a double stack train lead by four ES44DC's head towards Los Angelas on the "West main". This was really a "right place, right time" situation. West of Kingman, AZ, the two main tracks split just on the other side of the passenger station and take considerably different routes for about 10 miles before rejoining in the desert. In my entire time in and around Kingman, I saw only 6 Eastbounds and likely 20+ Westbounds. I am guessing Eastbounds run mainly at night. |

CSXT 4308 |
Description: |
CSX Y225, the Yeoman to Port Tampa job led by GP39-2s CSXT 4308 and 4303 cross the Hillsborough River drawbridge in downtown Tampa. This bascule bridge built by the ACL in 1915. This bridge once saw dozens of movements a day but now sees usually just 1 movement a day and is only manned as necessary. The line to Port Tampa goes right through downtown Tampa and there is a short stretch of street running involved. In the distance, ominous storm clouds are gathering. |

CSXT 5364 |
Description: |
CSXT 5364 and 5217 lead the Southbound empty Juice Train across the Manatee River and into Bradenton. O854 is the symbol of the Juice train between Yeoman Yard (Tampa) and Bradenton and mack. O854 leaves Yeoman Yard around 6am, arrives in Bradenton usually around 7:30am and spots the empties in the yard at the Tropicana facility and then doubles the loads out of Bradenton yard and heads back to Tampa usually by 10am. At Yeoman, the train is re-crewed and heads North as Q740. Today, there was an issue with the mainline switch at Big Bend, and the train was delayed about an hour and a half, so the Southbound is seen crossing the river/in good light, rather than the usual darkness. |

CSXT 898 |
Description: |
CSXT 898 and 779 lead 56 loaded coal hoppers off of the Gauley Branch over the New River and onto the CSX ex-C&O Mainline at Gauley Bridge, WV. The Gauley Branch is a lightly used branch with a very steep grade from the town of Gauley Bridge up and over the New River. These 2 AC units were struggling and it took three attempts to make it over the bridge. The first attempt the train stalled short of the trestle, then the units uncoupled, ran light and sanded various parts of the line and then tried 2 more times, this being the successful one. They could really have used either helpers or another unit on the head end. It was snowing pretty heavily and the temperature was about 17 degrees this day. |
